Saint Monica

Saint Monica is the mother of Saint Augustine and is known for her fervent prayers for the conversion of people that she loves. Though her husband criticized her charity and piety, but that did not stop her prayers.  Both her husband and mother-in-law were baptized.

The same goes for her wayward son, Augustine. Because he was living an immoral life, there were times when Monica would not let Augustine stay in her home. Though, after she had a vision that assured her Augustine would return to the faith, she stayed close to her son, praying and fasting for him. Read more about St. Augustine and his journey HERE.

Saint Monica is the patron saint of wives and abuse victims.

Her feast day is August 27.
