A note from Father Kumud
My Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Pastorate Six,
With a grateful heart to Bishop Donald Hying, the Bishop of the Diocese of Madison, I came to you as your Parochial Vicar on July 1, 2023. I am excited and joyful to be your co-shepherd after the Sacred Heart of Jesus the Good Shepard.
One month has passed so soon, so, I wanted to remain no longer a stranger to you, thus, let me brief you about me. I am Fr. Kumud Chandra Nayak, a priest of the Diocese of Madison. The Sanskrit origin of my name may sound a little difficult to pronounce, so you may call me as Father Kumud (pronounce as you spell with short ʊ as kʊmʊd). I won’t be miserable if you do not pronounce it correctly as I do most of the time the same with you. It is a win-win challenge…ha….
Originally, I am from the state of Orissa (East Coast of India), the neighboring state of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta. I celebrated my sweet 19 birthday with 30 years of experience on June 24, 2023 (do not try to guess my age). I am the first born of 5 of Mr. Sujan & Mrs. Pabitra Nayak. I was ordained to the Sacrament of Holy Order, on the eve of the Solemnity of the of Immaculate Conception of Blessed Virgin Mary, Dec 7, 2020, by His Excellency Donald J Hying at the Holy Names Heights, Madison, in the midst of the horrible Pandemic. By profession I am a teacher but by vocation I am a Priest according to the order of Melchizedek, Psalm 110:4. Thus, get ready to be on board with me… I will teach and preach… The deal is we learn from Jesus, for He is gentle and humble in heart, and we will find rest for our souls. (Matthew 11:29)
I suppose some of you might be wondering if I come to you with an agenda having the project of “Into the Deep,” the strategic plan of the Diocese of Madison. And the answer is a big YES! The agenda is the One that Bishop Hying gave me when he ordained me a deacon on April 15, 2020. He handed me the Book of the Gospel and said, “Believe what you read, preach what you believe, live what you preach.” This is my only agenda. I have gathered a lot of God-experiences from around the world within the 33 years of my vocation journey. I started my vocation journey in 1990. I would be happy to share with all of you, while I bring God’s love to each one of you as your Parish Priest. I am happy and excited to be with you and a year from now, I hope you are too.
I am available for your spiritual needs. Feel free to approach me anytime you need any Sacrament. I am just a phone call away. You can also email me at fatherkumudchand@gmail.com for any confidential matters or spiritual guidance. Put an extra potato in your oven and let me know when it is ready… I will be happy to share it with you on your table along with your family. We will come to know each other and be the Disciples of the Sacred Heart to love one another for the greater glory of God.
Remember, OUR GOAL is to reach HEAVEN TOGETHER!!! Lots of blessings of Sacred Heart of Jesus! ~ Fr. Kumud
